Pumpkin Carving with Farmer Mike
– The Pumpkin Picasso –
Since 1985, “Farmer Mike” Valladao has delighted audiences with his giant sculpted pumpkins…
His personal style known as “Pumpkin Carving in the Round” takes advantage of the size, shape, and depth of the “Atlantic Giant” variety of pumpkins to produce three-dimensional faces and detailed reliefs that range from a couple hundred pounds to more than a ton each.
Farmer Mike’s whimsical designs have appeared at select venues across the United States such as the Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival, the State Fair of Texas, the California Academy of Sciences, Interop New York, the San Diego Zoo, and The Tonight Show.
He has been featured in Boy’s Life magazine, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, and even authored a children’s book titled: “Farmer Mike Grows Giant Pumpkins”.
Mike and his wife (and a few chickens) make their home in the hills overlooking San Jose, CA.
